This presentation describes the progress of a PhD research project into the impact of astronomy-based education resources on students’ engagement with their physics syllabus. As part of the Faulkes Telescope Project and Gaia Science Alerts, the resources allow schools to “Adopt a Supernova” and track it over time using remote robotic telescopes. Students are able to use their findings to determine the Universe expansion rate through Hubble’s Law and apply elements of their physics syllabus to real science and real data. Engagement is measured through students and teacher pre- and post-engagement questionnaires, classroom observations and focus groups on a multiple case-study basis.
